Description

Nurses are leaders, professionals, and patient advocates. The patient is the priority, therefore they deserve to have the highest standard of care. The purpose of this training is to provide the newly hired staff nurse with the knowledge needed to provide quality skin and wound care to their patients. This course is offered twice per month to all nurses from any facility. However a private course can be scheduled by a facility, to include only their staff and to address their specific policies and procedures.

Major Content Areas Covered in the Course
Competencies

The WTA Program prepares participants with competencies that they can apply to their
practice immediately upon completion of the program. These competencies are assessed
through the online multiple choice and case scenario exams, as well as hands-on skills return
demonstrations. Course participants are expected to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the
following areas:

Outcomes

‍Upon successful completion of this educational program, the learner should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of basic skin care in preventing skin injury.
  • Identify patients who are at risk for skin injury.
  • List the four basic types of moisture associated skin damage or MASD.
  • Describe the areas affected by each specific type of MASD and effective interventions.
  • List the components to be documented from the wound assessment.
  • Identify characteristics which help determine the etiology of the wound.
  • Identify components which help determine dressing selection.
  • Describe the steps of changing an ostomy pouch.
Target Audience: RN, Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Professionals who work with WOC patients.
